Every Arab community from each country has a common features that unite the members of the same community, they share among themselves by invoking the spirit of their countries during their meetings. These common features helped define each community in preferring one area of Istanbul over others, and they unintentionally enrich life in these areas. By giving it a distinctive character, it helps the newcomers to settle and integrate into Turkish society in a short period of time. In this article, we will focus on the preferable areas that each community like over other regions, and it became known as a center of most of them.

Yemeni community

About 40,000 Yemenis live in Turkey, the vast majority of them live in Istanbul, and the largest proportion of them are merchants. There are about 300 Yemeni businessmen and investors came to Turkey from Saudi Arabia, to become about 800 Yemeni merchants and businessmen.

The majority of Yemenis are living in Istanbul in Basaksehir and Al-Fatih districts, as well as Esenyurt, whether in purchase or rent properties, which are the same areas in which their cultural and commercial activities are concentrated.

To answer this question, we must know why the Yemeni community come to Turkey in the last five years, Because of the difficult humanitarian situation that people of Yemen live there that comes from war and its consequences as the destruction. That’s why, lots of Yemenis came to Turkey and started their lives here through investments, some of them settled in Basaksehir district as we mentioned before due to its committed social character in this region. It is famous for the large number of mosques in it, very close to the Eastern customs and traditions, and it is also full of residential compounds with a family concept.

The Al-Fateh districts is one of the most important touristic districts in Istanbul because of its ancient archaeological landmarks. It is a place for tourists. It is also an important commercial center for businessmen and merchants. As Turkish says it is non-stop areas, so many Arabs like to live in it. And also the headquarters of their commercial businesses are there, whether companies or shops.

Meanwhile Esenyurt district, it is known for its diverse Arab services, in addition to the diversification of real estate prices in it to suit all social segments.

Yemeni investments

Turkey has attracted about 4 billion dollars of Yemeni capitals that came out of Yemen during the past four and a half years, and the Yemeni community tends to invest their money in the field of real estate in the first place, by buying and investing in apartments within the new compounds. The data of Turkish Statistics Authority indicate that purchase of real estate by Yemenis has increased steadily during the period from 2015 to 2020, with a total of 3,992 housing units, and Yemenis are ranked tenth among the most foreign nationalities of real estate owners in Turkey.

Investment in livestock comes in the second place, followed by import and export companies to Europe and the Gulf, ending with restaurants, cafes and shops. There are 313 Yemeni companies in Turkey in 2018, compared to 64 companies in 2015.

In addition to the presence of service entities such as Yemeni community in Turkey, that it is based in Beylikduzu, and the Yemeni Businessmen Union, which was established in 2018 and headquartered in Istanbul.

The Egyptian Community and Shirin Evlar

There are about 31,000 Egyptians from total 45,000 live in Istanbul, most of them concentrated in Shirin Evler and Esenyurt. The beginning for Egyptians to Turkey was in 2013 and did not stop until now, and within 9 years they were able to stamp an Egyptian character in the areas in which they live.

Shirin Evler neighborhood is the closest to Ataturk Airport. It is just 4 minutes away from the old Ataturk Airport. It is also full of many cafes and has two metro lines the subway and metrobus stations, so it was the perfect place for the Egyptian community to settle and start their commercial and economic activities there.

If you decide to walk around Shirin Evler, it is difficult to say that this is a Turkish neighborhood or even located in Istanbul’s neighborhoods. The first thing you will hear is their loud voices in speech and laughter. In Shirin, you will only hear the pure Egyptian accent, and it is also difficult to believe that you are in Istanbul from the large number of Egyptians with their brown skin with a beloving smile on their faces, every Egyptian who lives in Istanbul knows Sherine Evler, so that it has become one of the most important commercial and cultural centers for the Egyptian community.

In the Shirin Evler area, there are many restaurants, cafes and shops that are famous for serving Egyptian food, such as the Egyptian Cuisine Restaurant, the Egyptian House Restaurant, the Misr Station Restaurant, Shaheen Usta Restaurant, Deniz Fish Restaurant, and these restaurants are characterized by serving the most popular dishes in Egypt such as Molokhia, Koshary and grilled pigeons and other delicious dishes, in addition to the shops that specialized in selling Egyptian products that come specifically from Egypt, such as Molokhia, Rumi cheese, mango and other products that Egypt is famous for, as well as the Egyptian bakery, which is the first Egyptian bakery in all Istanbul.

This is in addition to many other commercial activities such as shipping companies, educational institutes for teaching languages, import and export companies, book selling and butchers specialized in selling Egyptian birds.

As they known by human sense Egyptians called Shirin Evler among themselves "Shibin Evlar" in reference to the Egyptian city of "Shebin El-Kom".

As for the Esenyurt district, it is the second stronghold of Egyptian community, where you find many commercial activities such as restaurants, cafes, import and export companies, and others.

The Egyptian community was also able to make many charitable Associations, such as Egyptian community in Turkey, based in Yani Bosna, it had an obviously role in first Corona pandemic in 2020, also there is “Arab Media Association”, which includes people who work in Media field in Turkey, and recently the Egyptian-Turkish House, that was established in 2021.
