Living in Istanbul

First, Renting costs

Renting an apartment is the most expensive cost compared to the rest of the other costs of living and the price of renting varies for several factors:

- The district you want to live in, as long as the district close to the center, prices are much more expensive than the other districts that outskirts

- The type of apartment if it is inside a residential complex or within a normal building. If the apartment is within a residential complex with services such as security, children’s areas, a swimming pool and other social facilities, it will be more expensive compared to apartments that are in a normal building, and you have to know that living in a residential complex you will have to pay monthly expenses for maintenance, known by “Aidat”, which will not be in case in ordinary building apartments.

The number of apartment rooms, the more rooms the apartment has, the higher price you will pay.

If this is your first time to rent an apartment, you should know that you have to pay in the beginning (a month in advance + two months insurance + 12% commission to the broker), and there are some apartment owners who ask for 6 months or a year in advance.

Renting prices in Istanbul are starting at an average of 3000 lira ($200) per month for a 1 + 1 apartment, and if you intend to move, you will have to pay 3000 in a advance + 3000 x 2 insurance + 12% x 12 months x 3000

By simple calculation it means 3000 + 6000 + 4320 = 13,320 pounds (900 dollars).
