The Turkish Immigration Department issues the first official statement on "tourist residence"
Last Monday, 2/12/019, the Turkish General Immigration Directorate issued the first official statement related to the issue of stopping the renewal of tourist residency renewal for foreigners in Turkey in addition to the conditions that should be met to obtain residence in Turkey starting from the beginning of the new year “2020”.
Tourist residency according to Turkish law:
The Turkish Immigration Department stated on its official website: The foreigners who have been granted a short-term residence permit “tourist residence” to stay for the purpose of tourism for a period of one year, according to Paragraph 31 -1 (E) of Law No. 6458, in the absence of justifiable reasons for staying In Turkey, upon the expiry of their non-tourist residency, as of 1/1/2020, applications for obtaining or renewing residency for the same purpose will not be available at the present time.
In the same context, “Gökçe Ok”, Assistant Director General of the Immigration Department in Turkey, said in a special statement to “Ramzi Real Estate Company” that this decision does not include the Syrian, Egyptian, Libyan and Sudanese nationalities, as for the rest of the nationalities, it is ruled by foreigners.
"Ok" added, saying that in the event that any foreigner outside those four nationalities was arrested and his stay in Turkey exceeded 90 days, then we will have to deport him from Turkey.
Exceptional cases for renewing tourist residency in Turkey:
In the same regard, "OK" indicated that the content of the article on non-renewal of short-term residence stipulates the following items: "Those who are exceptionally entitled to obtain a tourist residence in Turkey are 12 categories."

-Students (private university students and high school students)
-Residents for tourism purposes
- Who wants to receive treatment (provided that he does not carry any of the diseases that are considered a threat to public health)
- Whoever has a petition or decision from the judicial or administrative authorities stating that he must remain in Turkey
- Those who wish to transfer from a short-term residence permit to a family residence permit
-Participants in Turkish learning courses
- Those wishing to learn in Turkey through public institutions, research, and participation in training and courses
-Those who have completed higher education in Turkey and applied within six months of the date of graduation
-A short-term residence permit is issued for a maximum period of one year at a time
- The granted residence permits may be issued twice at most in the event of participation in Turkish learning courses.
Thus, the Turkish Immigration Department has clarified the truth from the allegation about what Turkish media reported about a decision that they said was issued by the Turkish Ministry of Interior, and includes stopping the renewal of tourist residency for all current residents in Turkey, including Syrians, starting from the beginning of next year 2020.
